Gestapo

After having secured Edda Ciano and her kids in Switzerland, Emilio returned to Italy to settle his affairs before attempting a new escape to Switzerland. As he tried to escape again to Switzerland from Lecco, Emilio’s car would not start though.

Emilio tried to stop a passing car only to find it contained four German soldiers. Soon he was in the hands of the Gestapo: they immediately took him to Milan, where Emilio was imprisoned at San Vittore and interrogated by the Nazi officers for more than a week.

The Gestapo demanded to know the location of Edda and her husband Galeazzo’s diaries.
