Early years

Florinda Soares Bulcão was born on February 15, 1941 in Uruburetama, Brazil and lived in Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro until she moved to Italy in 1968.

As a former flight inspector for Brazilian international carrier Varig, she became fluent in English, Italian and French.

Florinda moved to Italy in 1968 after being discovered by the film director Luchino Visconti.

She changed her name to Florinda Bolkan because she thought it would be more comfortable for international audiences.

Career

Bolkan started her acting career with the Beatle Ringo Starr in her first film, Candy. After that, she worked in more than forty films, mainly in Italy.

Cinema Highlights

Florinda acted in Metti, una sera a cena (a.k.a. “Love Circle”, literally “Let's Say, an Evening for Dinner”) is the 1969 Italian drama film directed by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi which entered into the 1969 Cannes Film Festival.
