Early Life
Fleur Cowles was born as Florence Freidman on January 20th, 1908, in New York City. She grew up in a working-class Jewish family — her parents were Morris Freidman, a novelty salesman, and his wife, Lena.
She quickly developed a desire to pursue a creative career.
Education
She attended high school in Bloomfield, New Jersey and later the School of Fine and Applied Arts in New York.
When she entered the workforce in advertising and publishing, though, she was largely self-taught.
